Prescription Numbers Explained

Right = OD

Left = OS

For a single vision correction, there will be up to 3 numbers for each eye: Sphere, Cylinder and Axis (you may only have a Sphere number for each eye). The Cylinder and Axis numbers go together - that is, if you have a Cylinder number, you must also have an Axis number.

The numbers are usually listed in .25 increments and the sign (+ or -) for the Sphere and Cylinder is important. Sometimes the decimal is omitted (125 = 1.25 and 025 = 0.25).

Examples:

-2.25 / -0.75 / 27 (sphere: -2.25; cylinder: -0.75; axis: 27)

-2.25 / - / - (sphere: -2.25; no cylinder or axis)

- / -75 / 27 (no sphere; cylinder: -0.75; axis: 27)

Prism - This is less common. Enter this at the end of the Rx. (Right OD:-2.50 / -1.00 / 36 Prism 5 Down) There is an additional charge for prism, based on the number of diopters, 5 in this example.

Note: If you are ordering and want to continue your order and supply the prescription later, simply enter "to come" for now. Call-in or email the information later.
